WELCOME TO UTORwebmail

UTORwebmail User's Guide

Introduction Welcome to UTORwebmail, a web-based e-mail service provided by Computing and Networking Services, based on the Internet Messaging Program (IMP). Through IMP's intuitive interface, you'll be able to access and manage your UTORmail account using the simplicity of a standard web browser.
Getting Started Logging In

UTORwebmail now uses the UTORauth WebLogin single-signon system. This allows you to visit many different websites without having to log in again. And you use the same UTORid and password to access any of these.

All sessions begin at my.utoronto.ca, which will automatically take you to the UTORauth WebLogin site. Enter your UTORid and password in the appropriate fields, and click "Login" to proceed.

If you do not have a UTORid, go to UTORid Management to create a one. If you have forgotten your UTORid or password, please contact the Help Desk, First Floor, Robarts Library.

Once you have authenticated, you will be presented with my.utoronto.ca, with notices about upcoming events. Click on WEBMAIL in the upper right corner to go to your UTORmail mailbox.

The Mailbox Listing

The contents of your Inbox folder will be displayed after going to WEBMAIL. The Mailbox Listing shows the contents of each message's header (message status, date sent, sender, subject, and size). Each column has a heading. Clicking on the heading will cause the listing to be sorted by that column.

To view the contents of a message, click on the message's subject. You'll be taken to the Message screen.

The Message Screen

The Message Screen display the contents of the selected message. From here, you can browse message attachments, reply to the current message, delete the current message, or advance to the next message in your current mailbox.

The Compose Window

You can send mail in a variety ways. You might choose to compose a new message or perhaps to reply to an existing message. Whichever method you choose, however, will open the standard Compose Window.

The Compose Window allows you to set, among other things, the message recipient's address (who you're sending mail to), the message subject, and the message contents. Simply fill out the appropriate fields at the top of the window (only the To: address is required, but the Subject: is suggested) and type your message in the large lower field. Once you've completed entering your message, you may choose to Spell Check your message text. Once you're done composing your new message, click the "Send" button to send the message to the recipient.

Conclusion

This has hopefully given you a general understanding of how to web mail interface works. You'll surely become comfortable with it after seeing how easy and convenient it is for reading and sending mail, as well as managing your UTORmail account.
